20% but never less than $5.00, but if the service was great the sky is the limit. I work at a casino and those people get paid very little money, also most people forget to tip at a buffet those people live off their tips as well.

If the service is good, 20%. if the service was acceptable, 15%. If below that anywhere from nothing to 10% is ok. If the service was horrible, leave a penny. That way the server will know you were unhappy and didnt just forget to tip. I disagree with leaving a minimum 15% tip even for horrible service. I work hard so I can go out to eat once a week or so. I'm not going to waste my money on someone who obviously doesn't care about making money by providing good service.

10% is cheapskate level.

The standard acceptable rate is 15%-20%. More if you recieved good service.

15% is the absolute minimum. Even if you recieved horrible service you should tip, then speak to the manager. You still get paid at your job if you do poorly. You just won't be there long if you get a lot of complaints.

Poor service at a resturant is usually the fault of management, by underscheduling staff or hiring unqualified personnel.

Generally, 10% to 20% is the standard, but it is based upon the quality of the service and food. If they're that bad, leave as little as 5%.

If you want to show class, way overtip at the breakfast diners. Those poor women never get big tips (20% of a $4 breakfast is only 80c). It doesn't take much to really make their day - they will remember a $5 tip.

At the restaurants that I worked it was 15% - 17% and for parties of 6 or more the 17% gratuity was automatically added to the check.

They say 10-20% but remember how much the person actually makes an hour and pretend you were trying to live off of that. Then round to that figure.
