I wouldn't say illegal, maybe if they put a sign up in the window that said "Only McDonalds food please". But they should be happy that there's a 1/4 of a chance that you might buy their food. I guess it's only illegal if they put up a sign, and you ate there anyways.

Please let me know if it is a restaurant or fast food. If it is fast food and you didn't buy something of theirs, well it is rude. Now a real sit down restaurant can refuse you a seat and ask you to leave. After all they are in business to sell food and drinks and not in the seat business. Now a bar will let you eat your sandwich, but you must buy a drink of some sort.

It's not illegal but they can refuse you being able to sit down and eat your food inside their establishment. You are advertising other companies which isn't good for them. If you're sitting inside Taco Bell with a McDonald's bag that's really rude of you. If it's just a drink from like AmPm or 711 I'm sure it's not that big of a deal, but if you're eating tacos at McDonald's then that is rude.

Illegal no, but against the policy of basically all restaurants yes. So it is legal but if you do they will probably throw you out because if you were able to bring in a star bucks drink you would probably not buy there drinks there for being bad for business.

Rude as hell. A restaurant is a business- and the purpose of a business is to make money. They make money by selling food.

Not illegal (note correct spelling) but infinitely RUDE!

Although, if you, or most of your party, is eating there, they usually don't get upset.

For instance, I have been known to pick up something fast food for my son, and then go into a Chinese restaurant to order food for myself, and we'll eat there. But that's because my son won't eat Chinese food. And they are friends of ours.

if you bring outside food to eat at a different place without ordering, it's rude.

but if you are bringing in a SB latte to Roundtable for example, and order pizza, that might be ok, depending on Roundtable

I'm not sure about the legality of it, but it is a little rude taking up a table when you are not going to buy any of their food.

i don't think its illegal, but i think the restaurant has the right to seat you or not. it probably pisses off most restaurants because you're taking up space and they could make more money if they seated someone else who would actually order their food.

no and in fact it is often encouraged by the owner. the logic is that if the atmosphere is so well-liked, then people eat whatever food that they like at the restaurant.

it is a compliment. similar to how the Orientals slurp soup if they are enjoying it.

No it is not. Customer service always first.

Yes it is.

Company policy forbids it, you will be thrown out.
